The initiative is part of the commitments made in the Fashion Pact
\nMango is moving forward with its commitment to sustainability, one of its main strategic axes, and is starting a project to replace plastic packaging bags with paper bags, making it the first major textile company in Spain to take this step.<\/p>\n

The company’s aim is to progressively eliminate, in collaboration with its suppliers, all plastic bags used to distribute products throughout the supply chain. In this way, Mango will stop using around 160 million plastic bags.<\/p>\n

It will now use tissue paper bags, a material made from natural pulp from renewable sources. This paper comes from sustainably managed forests, where the practices used to cut down the trees are certified in accordance with the requirements of the international FSC\u00ae (Forest Stewardship Council\u00ae) standards. In this way, it also contributes to a circular economy, as paper products can be recycled on average between four and six times.<\/p>\n

Initially, the project will be launched in proximity productions in folded pieces and on the online channel, following the success of the three pilot tests carried out by the company in Morocco, China and Turkey. Mango expects this new project to be implemented in all its garments by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n

According to Toni Ruiz, Mango’s CEO, “this is a major project that will have a very positive impact on the environment, as thanks to its implementation we will no longer use around 160 million plastic bags a year. We are very pleased to be carrying out this type of project that helps us move towards more sustainable fashion, which in turn allows us to put the company’s sustainable transformation into practice.”<\/p>\n

Fashion Pact
\nThe project is part of the Fashion Pact, a global coalition aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in the textile and fashion sectors, which the company joined in 2019. In this global pact, all its signatories commit to working together to minimise the environmental impact of the textile and fashion industry, focusing on three pillars: fighting climate change, preserving biodiversity and protecting the oceans. In line with the last pillar, Mango has started this project with the aim of eliminating any type of plastic from its packaging.<\/p>\n
