Rotom Europe joins the United Nations Global Compact
Rotom Europe, a European group specialised in logistics solutions and reusable load carriers, has announced its accession to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.
Launched in 2000 at the proposal of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the Global Compact is built on ten fundamental principles covering human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption, encouraging their integration into companies’ strategies and operations. Today, it brings together more than 20,000 organisations in over 160 countries.
In the logistics sector, characterised by complex supply chains, these principles take on particular importance. According to Frank Weermeijer, Interim CEO of Rotom Europe, joining the United Nations Global Compact “represents an important milestone” and reinforces the group’s commitment to responsible growth, circular logistics and sustainable practices across the entire value chain.
As a participant in the United Nations Global Compact, Rotom Europe commits to embedding its principles into the group’s strategy, operations and corporate culture, with a strong focus on reducing its environmental footprint, promoting human and labour rights, and ensuring transparency throughout the European logistics chain.
In Portugal, where Rotom has maintained a continuous presence since 2008, these commitments translate into concrete industrial investments. Rotom Portugal, which will celebrate 18 years of activity in 2026, has invested in decarbonisation, innovation and the circular economy, including the use of biomass from wood waste, solar panels, advanced robotics, high-efficiency industrial equipment and a 100% electric forklift fleet. The company currently employs 37 people, is headquartered in Nazaré, operates a warehouse in Maia and plans to open a new facility in Palmela in 2026.
