Mango announces investment of 35 million to expand logistics centre

Mango, the clothing and accessories brand, recently announced that it intends to expand its logistics centre in Barcelona, in a project involving several million euros.

According to a statement, the brand intends to spend 35 million euros, but this investment will enable savings of around 25% in the costs of preparing online orders.

The new facility will add 90,000 square metres (m2) to the logistics centre, which will reach a total of 280,000 m2, the equivalent of 40 football pitches.

“The increase we are experiencing in e-commerce confirms that planning this expansion was the right decision, as it will enable us to automate certain tasks in order to be able to handle the expected volume. Maintaining investments in strategic projects that allow us to anticipate future needs and be more competitive is a priority for the company,” comments Toni Ruiz, CEO of the fashion retail chain, quoted in a press release.

Mango expects the facility to begin shipping operations during the second half of next year. As detailed by the company, the centre will be “fully operational omnichannel” by 2023.

The expansion includes the incorporation of automation that will be added to the current functionalities of the logistics space, such as a sorter to sequence orders and automate the management of returns; as well as autonomous mobile robots for the internal handling of the centre; or a sorter dedicated to the management of dispatches. Through these innovations, Mango will increase its garment management capacity by up to 10,000 garments per hour. Overall, the company will be able to handle 85,000 garments per hour.
