El Corte Inglés uses electric bicycle for deliveries in Lisbon

El Corte Inglés is now using an electric bicycle to deliver parcels to customers, it announced in a statement. This action is part of a pilot project aligned with the company’s sustainability strategy and the mobility strategy of the Lisbon City Council, which is being tested in deliveries on the day in the vicinity of the El Corte Inglés department stores in Lisbon.

Equipped with a two-metre trailer, the cargo bike carries up to 300 kilos of goods. Fast and environmentally friendly, this transport alternative has the advantage of avoiding obstacles, such as traffic, that make the delivery process take longer.

“The bike has a range of 50 kilometres and has already started making its first deliveries, with the capacity to make around 20 deliveries per day along the cycle paths surrounding El Corte Inglés,” the company explains in a statement.

El Corte Inglés is committed to protecting the environment and contributing to global sustainability and therefore works daily to increase the offer of more sustainable services. With this new means of transport it is possible to “provide a much faster service and with zero emissions into the atmosphere on the journey between the Lisbon department stores and the customer’s home, which in this way becomes part of the sustainability movement”, says the company.

According to El Corte Inglés, the boxes used in these deliveries are made of 100% recycled cardboard, which comes from cardboard that is collected at El Corte Inglés department stores as part of the Zero Waste project and then transformed into new boxes.
