SUMOL+COMPAL opens automated warehouse

SUMOL+COMPAL opens the doors to the new Automated Warehouse at the Almeirim Logistics Operations Centre. It was on 15 October 2021 that SUMOL+COMPAL inaugurated the new Automated Warehouse, in a ceremony presided over by Prime Minister António Costa. It represents an investment of 15 million euros and aims to double storage capacity, increase shipping speed, reduce total stocks of finished products in operations in Portugal and eliminate double transport, reducing the CO2 footprint by around 1,000 tonnes per year. This new infrastructure responds to the challenges of the future of the industry by reflecting greater efficiency and a better level of service to customers, with less environmental impact. It took around 100,000 hours of design and 18 months of implementation that fill us with pride and make us believe in the future. In Almeirim, SUMOL+COMPAL now has an additional 12,000 m2 of storage with a capacity for 30,000 pallets, which doubles its capacity, and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that will increase processing by another 600 pallets per hour. In addition, by centralising logistics operations in Almeirim and investing in cutting-edge technology such as stacker cranes with electrical regeneration systems, SUMOL+COMPAL guarantees greater energy efficiency, with a 50% reduction in equipment consumption.
