NIDO® innovates with unique, ready-to-recycle packaging
NIDO® powdered milk, produced by Nestlé at the Avanca factory, has a new and unique more sustainable packaging, made of recyclable plastic, which replaces the two previous packages, consisting of a plastic sachet and a cardboard packaging. This is yet another transformation that NESTLÉ® is carrying out to fulfil its commitment to achieve 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025.
This new NIDO® packaging is ready to recycle and put in the Yellow Ecoponto. With this transformation process, which eliminated cardboard packaging, 17 tonnes of paper will be avoided per year for the same volume of product, compared to 2020.
The commitment to the transformation of packaging material was announced in April 2018 and since then, in Portugal, the company has been working on the packaging of its entire product portfolio in order to make them recyclable or reusable. In Portugal, 94% of the packaging is already ready to be recycled or reused.
In addition to the change in packaging material, NIDO® powdered milk, which is produced with milk from the Azores, will also include the Nutri-Score nutritional information scheme, with a B classification, in this new packaging. Nutri-Score is a five-level colour and lettering scheme, based on a classification from A-dark green to E-red, placed on the front of the packaging, which helps consumers understand the nutritional profile of a food product.
