Increasingly, companies are seeking to establish the Circular Economy and Sustainability in their DNA. Namely, by adopting reusable or 100% recyclable solutions, by replacing multilayer by monolayer materials, thus facilitating the recycling process, or even by introducing QR codes that make packaging “intelligent”.
Innovation and Ecodesign must be taken into consideration as the guiding thread between production and the end-of-life of materials, with a view to reducing the environmental impact associated both with primary and secondary packaging and with transport and display packaging. Logistics is also increasingly a challenge in terms of circularity.
What is the role of research and technology centres in this process of innovation and redesign of packaging and materials? How can they improve logistics processes? What contribution can they make to industry?
